Praia do Forte is located on the Costa dos Coqueiros (Coconut Coast), along the north coast of Bahia, 80 km from Salvador (50 mi). It was founded in the 16th century by the Portuguese nobleman Garcia D’Ávila. There, he built one of the oldest forts in Brazil, giving rise to this charming fishing village.
The village is part of an environmentally protected area – a natural area dedicated to the protection and conservation of its biodiversity and natural resources. It houses, in addition to the preserved ruins of Forte Garcia d’Ávila, important scientific and educational attractions such as the Tamar project headquarters (a nonprofit organization devoted to protecting sea turtles from extinction in the Brazilian coastline), and the Humpback Whale Institute (dedicated to these magnificent creatures that visit Praia do Forte every winter and spring).
The village’s excellent infrastructure of beautiful vacation homes, luxurious hotels, resorts, inns, shops, bars and first-rate restaurants, have transformed it into one of the most coveted vacation places in Brazil. In addition, its busy beach trade is guaranteed to delight visitors from all corners of the world.
This tour will initially take us through the village of Guarajuba, where we will make a short stop to enjoy one of the most beautiful beaches in the North Coast.
Once in Praia do Forte, we will visit the Tamar Project and learn about its 40-year long effort to protect and recover sea turtles. The project invests in research, conservation, environmental education and social inclusion, generating job opportunities and income for the local community.
We will then have time to enjoy a leisurely lunch (not included) and finish our day by visiting other attractions in the village.

This full-day tour will take us to visit Frades and Itaparica Islands in the All Saints Bay, two of the 36 islands that make up the archipelago. The schooner boat will leave the Nautical Center of Bahia at 8:00 a.m. and will take approximately one and a half hours to reach Frades Island. Navigating in calm waters, the relaxing journey will offer us an enchanting panoramic view of the city of Salvador and the bay.
We will spend around two and a half hours at Our Lady of Guadalupe beach, named for the 17th century church on top of the hill, where we will be able to relax and swim in the sea. Widely recognized for its natural beauty and calm and crystalline waters, our Lady of Guadalupe was the first beach in the Brazilian Northeast to receive the International Blue Flag Seal in 2015 – one of the world’s most prestigious awards for beaches that comply with a series of stringent environmental, educational, safety-related and access-related criteria. Here, we will find a small community of residents who live off tourism.
Then, the tour continues to Itaparica Island, where the schooner will dock at a restaurant for lunch (not included) and then enjoy a good rest before returning to Salvador. Then, you will be transferred back to your hotel.
