#12 Bike Tour in the Itapagipe Peninsula – 3 hours

9:00 a.m. Pick up at the hotel (time can be ajusted according to your convenience).

The Itapagipe Peninsula, located in the lower part of the city, is home to many of Salvador’s most beautiful historical and cultural treasures.  Neighborhoods overlooking the All Saints Bay – such as Ribeira, Bonfim, Ponta de Humaitá and Boa Viagem – are considered areas of great historical and architectural interest and are excellent destinations for pro and amateur bikers alike.

From your hotel, we will drive you to the neighborhood of Ribeira, where we will hop on our bikes and start our cycling tour. The calm waters of Ribeira, with its shallow tidal beaches and Portuguese colonial houses, make visitors feel like they have been transported to the countryside. Tranquility is a hallmark of this neighborhood.

We will cycle by Amado Bahia Solar, built by the Amado Bahia family in 1901 and a great example of the eclectic architecture of that era. We will stop at the traditional Ribeira ice cream shop, which opened its doors in 1931 and quickly became one of the most sought after spots by ice cream lovers from all over the city. There, we will have a chance to taste some of their more than 70 ice cream flavors, many of which are made with the exquisite tropical fruits of the region.

We will then bike by the Pedra Furada Community, which is hidden in a corner of the Itapagipe Peninsula. This humble community has very interesting features with a great beach of calm waters, and a few surprising local bars and restaurants.

Our next stop will be the Mont Serrat Fort, considered one of Brazil’s most beautiful military works of the colonial period.  Built in 1702 on top of Salvador’s highest hill, and characterized by its Moorish architecture, the fort offers a spectacular view of the bay, the Historic Center of Salvador, the port of the city and the Itaparica Island.

We will ride by the Churches of Mont Serrat and Boa Viagem, and then head back to the neighborhood of Ribeira, where our cycling portion of the tour will end here, and we will return to the hotel by car.

#13 Bike Tour Barra/Rio Vermelho Circuit – 3 hours

08:30 a.m. Meeting at bike Shop in Barra.

We will start our bike ride through the traditional neighborhood of Barra where, in 1535, Vila do Pereira was founded, the first Portuguese settlement in America.

We will leave the store towards the Port of Barra, where we will pass by the Santa Maria and São Diogo Forts, both from the 17th century.

Our next stop will be at Ponta do Padrão, at the famous Santo Antônio da Barra Fort, popularly known as Barra Lighthouse. From there we have a spectacular view of the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the entrance to the Baía de Todos-os-Santos on the other. The fort is one of the icons of the Bahian capital and currently houses the Bahia Nautical Museum.

Following along Oceanica Avenue, one of the favorite carnival routes for Bahians in Salvador, we will pass by the beautiful sculpture of the Christ of Barra and the Spanish Club of Bahia.

We arrive in the Ondina neighborhood, where we will find the famous „Gordinhas de Ondina,“ a tribute by the Bahian artist Eliana Kértsz to the three main cultures that formed the Brazilian people: the indigenous, the African, and the European.

Following the shoreline, we will arrive at the bohemian neighborhood of Rio Vermelho, much celebrated by „soteropolitans“ and tourists as one of the city’s favorite meeting points, with a large number of bars, restaurants, and nightclubs.

The neighborhood takes us back in time with its typical Portuguese houses, still well preserved, churches, and a museum that is much celebrated by Bahians: The Casa do Rio Vermelho, former residence of the writer Jorge Amado and Zélia Gattai, which has become a very popular museum.

We will walk along the waterfront quite calmly, since we have a lot of stories to tell, after all this is where we celebrate the traditional feast of Iemanjá on February 2nd, the largest public religious manifestation of candomblé in Bahia.

The Largo de Santana is one of the busiest places in the neighborhood, especially in the afternoon, when the smell of palm oil spreads, inviting people to eat one of Bahia’s favorite foods, the acarajé! There is Dinha’s, but also Cira’s acarajé in the next square, Largo da Mariquita.

Now, it’s time to go back on the pedal to our starting point in Barra.
